AmeriLenz Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Welcome to the AmeriLenz Vision Correction Program. Below are answers to common questions from health and vision plan members exploring their options for refractive surgery.
Understanding the Procedures
AmeriLenz offers access to multiple procedures, including Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) also known as Clear Lens Exchange (CLE) or Clear Lens Replacement (CLR) and latest FDA approved procedure EVO ICL. The best option for you will depend on your prescription, eye health, and lifestyle.
Refractive Lens Exchange is a safe and commonly performed outpatient procedure that uses the same proven techniques as modern cataract surgery, the most frequently performed surgery in the world. In RLE, the eye’s natural lens is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). This allows light to properly focus on the retina, significantly improving vision. RLE is an effective option for those with presbyopia, farsightedness, or high refractive errors. Recovery is quick, and most patients experience minimal discomfort. Like cataract surgery, RLE has a long track record of safety and high patient satisfaction, with millions of procedures performed worldwide.
Yes. RLE is based on the same surgical approach as cataract surgery, which is one of the safest and most widely performed procedures in the world. The surgery is done in a sterile outpatient setting, typically takes only 10–15 minutes per eye, and uses advanced lens implant technology. Most patients experience improved vision within 24 hours and minimal downtime.
EVO ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) is a reversible, additive vision correction procedure in which a biocompatible lens is implanted behind the iris to correct nearsightedness and astigmatism. It is FDA-approved for the treatment of myopia and myopic astigmatism in adults ages 21 to 45. Unlike LASIK or PRK, EVO ICL does not remove any corneal tissue. It offers rapid recovery and high-quality vision, especially for patients who may not be good candidates for laser procedures.
Yes. Both RLE (with toric intraocular lenses) and EVO ICL are effective options for treating astigmatism. EVO ICL is FDA-approved to correct both nearsightedness and astigmatism. These advanced lens technologies allow light to properly focus on the retina, improving clarity and reducing or eliminating dependence on glasses or contacts. Your surgeon will recommend the most appropriate procedure based on your individual vision needs.
Eligibility & Candidacy
Candidacy depends on several factors including age, corneal thickness, prescription stability, and overall eye health. A consultation with a provider in the AmeriLenz network is the first step to determining eligibility.
Yes. Contact lenses can temporarily alter the shape of your cornea. To ensure accurate measurements and results, you’ll need to stop wearing contacts before your consultation and surgery. Soft lenses should be removed at least one week prior, while hard or gas-permeable lenses may require several weeks. Your Care Manager will give you the exact timeline based on your selected provider’s protocol.
No referral is necessary. You can contact AmeriLenz directly to get started and schedule your consultation with a participating provider.
Call AmeriLenz toll-free at 855-215-2020. A representative will explain your vision benefits, answer any questions, and help you locate participating providers using your ZIP code. Once you’ve selected a provider, your Care Manager will schedule your initial appointment, and send the procedure discount voucher to you.
The Procedure & Recovery
Surgical procedures utilizing a new lens take just a few minutes per eye, but the full appointment may last up to two hours. Your treatment is customized based on precise measurements taken during your pre-op visit. You’ll need someone to drive you home afterward, and a follow-up visit is typically scheduled the next day.
Most patients return to normal activities within 1–2 days after the procedure. In some cases, RLE recovery may take slightly longer but is typically well-tolerated. Vision often improves within hours to days after the procedure.
Vision can naturally change over time. If needed, retreatment options may be available depending on the procedure and your provider’s policy. Lifetime Assurance Plans can offer added protection for future adjustments.
Costs & Payments
Through the AmeriLenz network, members receive 10-20% average discounts ranging from $700 to $1,600 ($350–$800 per eye) off the total cost of the procedure. Many participating providers also offer flexible financing options to make vision correction more affordable.
